Eight useful things to pack for your dog’s beach holidays

Food, balls, treats, balls, holiday treats, balls, collar, balls, leash, balls, bed, balls, towel, balls – a dog’s packing list is long as it is. As a responsible dog parent, take these eminently sensible accessories for the summer trip to the beach

1. Kurgo Mud Dog Travel Shower

We love Kurgo – it’s probably the most outdoorsy brand of dog accessories. One of its genius inventions in the Mud Dog Travel Shower – a simple little rubber shower head that fits onto most water bottles. Hose down that muddy pup before it’s time to head home. Buy either directly from Kurgo or Amazon for around £12.10.

2. Ruffwear Gnawt-a-Stick

When Wunderdog asked the good people from online store K9Active what their favourite summer toy was, they nominated the Gnawt-a-Stick by Ruffwear, which floats, is chew resistant and environmentally friendly. £16.99

3. Beco bowl

These collapsible travel bowls are genius: they collapse to a flat Frisbee shape and can be stored pretty much in any bag or car door. While these bowls are not new, we like Beco’s model, because it is sturdy and sustainably produced. Three sizes and three colours, from £4.49

4. Equafleece body

The amazing dog trainer and nutritionist Anna Webb recommended this shirt, and we are so glad she did. The light cotton body is a multi-tasker that can be used to cool – simply soak in water and put in the fridge before wear – but also to dress after operations and is even recommended to calm down dogs that are stressed. Goldie is usually only stressed when she is not allowed to greet all the dogs, and she loves her red Equafleece. From £13

5. Ruffwear Float Coat

Summer time – dive in! But also be safe and put a life jacket on. While swimming with a dog next to you is one of the greatest joys, please remember that swimming in quite some exercise for your dog, so don’t overdo it. Also, they often drink a lot of water while swimming, which can be dangerous, so get your dog to take plenty of breaks from swimming! But when it’s paddling time, we love this happy-coloured Float Coat from Ruffwear. £79.95

6. Edition 12 biothane collar

We have already featured Edition 12’s lovely colourblock collection made of biothane – which is water- and stinkproof – on our spring style list, but it’s as useful as it is pretty. Goldie got a specially made red/pink set, which has been extensively tested on our recent trip to North Norfolk, including dips in the sea, rolls in the mud and some rough love from those puppy teeth. We also had lunch with Edition 12’s team of Harriet and Frankie, here pictured having tea with Goldie. Get the line directly from Edition 12, and you also order special colour ways. Collars from £43

7. Earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe shampoo

This may not look like a filthy dog, but after a week of playing in the sand and sea, the bath tub begged to differ. The Earthbath oatmeal shampoo comes Goldie-recommended, because it moisturises the coat and soothes the skin after a long, hard day at the beach. Earthbath is pretty widely available now. On Amazon, it’s currently £12 (but check online).

8. FuzzYard microfibre towel

You want to sit in the car on the way back from the beach with a wet dog? Really? Well, mock away then, while we may look slightly over-prepared with our microfibre dog towel – but won’t have a stinking wet dog on the back seat. This one by FuzzYard cuts drying time in half. £15

Have a great time on holidays!
